Conditions for Using E-Resources

The Library subscribes to hundreds of electronic journals, books and other databases for use by authorized users (current faculty, students and staff and, in most cases, on-site visitors). The terms and conditions for using these resources are set out in electronic resource license agreements with each publisher.

It is the responsibility of individual users to ensure their use of electronic resources does not breach the terms and conditions specified in the license agreements. Licenses vary from publisher to publisher; however, the general principles are:

Permitted

  • Copying, viewing, printing and saving individual articles from an e-resource
  • Sending a copy of an article to another member of the St. Francis College community (i.e. current faculty, administrators, students, or staff)
  • Using an article for research, teaching, or private study
  • Posting the PDF or full-text of an article to a secure location such as Angel where only authorized users can gain access
  • Not Permitted

  • Systematic, bulk or automatic downloading using software or robots
  • Systematic downloading or printing of entire journal issues
  • Activity meant to generate commercial gain as a result of reselling or redistributing e-resources
  • Making online content available to unauthorized users
  • Posting the PDF or full-text of an article to an unsecure location such as a freely-available site on the Web or a mailing list
