Introduction

This Writing and Literature Guide embraces such topics as English Composition, Creative Writing, Creative Nonfiction, Technical Writing, and English & American Literature. Although it is impossible for a single guide to cover all pertinent areas, I hope that this guide will help you get started in your research process and assist you in identifying resources for studying writing and literature in English.

Getting Started

If you're working on a  paper for WRI 1000 or WRI 1100 classes, check out The Writing Guide page. It offers composition tips, links to writing labs from other institutions, and sample essays in MLA and APA formats.

If you're working on a research essay for Advanced Writing class (WRI 1500) or a literature class, see the Find Articles page, which provides links to the library's literature and multidisciplinary databases, and Find Books page, which will assist you in navigating the library's catalog.

The Useful Websites page lists library-approved sites for English grammar, writing, and literature.

On the Citing Sources page you will learn how to cite works within a paper and on the Works Cited / References page. It also lists links to several citation generators and bibliographic managers, such as Firefox's Zotero.
