Our present circumstances, while unprecedented, have been profoundly shaped by persistent societal realities—such as entrenched racial and economic inequality, the proliferation of misinformation, and anxieties about the ability of the world’s democracies to confront major crises. In-depth social understanding will be vital to apprehending the crisis and charting a path forward.

The Section of Civil Rights and Social Justice has developed a multi-part webinar series exploring how the COVID-19 pandemic highlights critical legal issues of criminal justice, civil rights, human rights, and economic concerns, to name only a few. In these free webinars, panelists will address the deepening crises in our collective pursuit of advancing law and justice.

COVID-19 (coronavirus) will have serious negative impacts on Black, Indigenous, people of color, immigrants, and low-income, LGBTQ and incarcerated people and communities. The COVID-19 pandemic is intensifying the daily impacts of systemic racism on people of color who are already experiencing limited access to health care and paid sick leave, mass incarceration, and higher rates of underlying conditions such as diabetes, heart disease and respiratory illnesses that make COVID-19 infections deadly.
