Philosophy

The mission of the Loeb Classical Library, founded by James Loeb in 1911, has always been to make Greek and Latin literature accessible to the broadest range of readers. The digital Loeb Classical Library extends this mission into the twenty-first century. Harvard University Press is honored to renew James Loeb's vision of accessibility and presents an interconnected, fully searchable, perpetually growing, virtual library of all that is important in Greek and Latin literature.

The Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy organizes scholars from around the world in philosophy and related disciplines to create and maintain an up-to-date reference work.

The Philosophy Documentation Center has been serving scholars on a non-profit basis since 1966, earning a reputation for excellence with the publication of scholarly journals, book series, conference proceedings, reference works, and other materials in philosophy and related fields.

Since its small-scale launch in Britain in 1991, Philosophy Now has grown to become the most widely-read philosophy periodical in the English language. It is available from bookstores and newsstands throughout Britain, the USA, Canada and Australia. Philosophy Now is independent of all groups and has no intentional editorial bias except for a passionate conviction that philosophy is a Good Thing

APPA is a non-profit educational corporation that encourages philosophical awareness and advocates leading the examined life. APPA members apply philosophical systems, insights and methods to the management of human problems and the amelioration of human estates.

The American Society for Aesthetics was founded in 1942 to promote study, research, discussion, and publication in aesthetics. "Aesthetics," in this connection, is understood to include all studies of the arts and related types of experience from a philosophic, scientific, or other theoretical standpoint, including those of psychology, sociology, anthropology, cultural history, art criticism, and education. "The arts" include the visual arts, literature, music, and theater arts.

The Hegel Society of America is a learned society, founded in 1968, whose goal is to promote the study of the philosophy of Hegel and Hegelianism, its place within the history of thought, and its relation to social, political, and cultural movements since his time.

Established in 1989, the IPS promotes Platonic studies throughout the world and communication among scholars of diverse disciplines. It includes the annual Plato Bibliography and the journal Platon.

Founded in 1950 by Paul Weiss, the Metaphysical Society is committed to the principle that philosophical thought is open to a variety of different traditions and methodologies and provides a forum for the discussion of the questions that have animated philosophical debate from the start. It maintains a close informal relation with the Review of Metaphysics.

The purpose of the RPA is to foster the discussion of diverse currents of radical, critical philosophical thinking in the United States and worldwide, and to provide support for initiatives to implement such thinking along lines agreed to by a consensus of the membership.
